Rotala Rotundifolia Orange Juice – Orange Aquatic Stem Plant

Rotala Rotundifolia Orange Juice is a beautiful aquatic stem plant known for its vibrant orange coloration and ability to create striking colour contrast in planted aquariums. Originating from Italy in the aquarium trade, this attractive variety is similar to the popular Rotala rotundifolia but stands out with its bright orange tones under suitable aquarium conditions.

This versatile aquarium plant can be grown both submerged (underwater) and emersed (above water). When grown underwater, it develops longer, narrower leaves that complement green aquatic plants and other colourful species. With suitable lighting, a consistent supply of nutrients, and proper aquarium plant fertilisation, Rotala Rotundifolia Orange Juice can develop more intense orange and reddish hues, making it an excellent choice for nature-style aquascapes and high-contrast planted tanks.

Best Placement in Your Aquarium

Rotala Rotundifolia Orange Juice is ideal for the background of planted aquariums, where its tall, colourful stems can create a dense and attractive plant group. For the best visual effect, separate the bundle into individual stems and plant them approximately 1–1.5 cm apart. This spacing allows light and nutrients to reach each stem while encouraging healthy growth.

When planted in groups and maintained with regular trimming, this aquatic plant can form a lush, colourful bush that adds depth and visual interest to your aquascape.

Growth and Propagation

This is a relatively fast-growing aquarium stem plant that benefits from regular pruning. Trim the stems when they become too tall or crowded to maintain the desired shape and encourage bushier growth. Pruning also helps light reach the lower leaves, reducing the risk of leaf loss caused by shading.

Propagation is simple: cut a healthy stem and replant the cut portion into the aquarium substrate. With suitable growing conditions, the new cutting can develop roots and grow into another plant.
