Mermaid Weed – Proserpinaca palustris

Mermaid Weed (Proserpinaca palustris) is a distinctive aquatic stem plant known for its attractive serrated, sawtooth-shaped leaves and beautiful colour variations ranging from green to orange-red. Native to North and South America, this unique aquarium plant adds texture, colour, and a natural bush-like appearance to planted aquariums.

Mermaid Weed is an excellent choice for aquascaping enthusiasts looking to create an eye-catching midground or background display. As the plant matures, it develops a bushy growth pattern and can reach a considerable size, making it particularly suitable for medium to large aquariums. Its broad foliage can provide shade for surrounding plants, adding depth and dimension to your aquascape.

Although Mermaid Weed has been part of the aquarium hobby for many years, growing it into a compact, attractive form may require suitable aquarium conditions and proper care. With the right environment, its distinctive leaf shape and warm colour tones can make it a standout feature in a planted tank.
