Ludwigia inclinata ‘Cuba’

Ludwigia inclinata ‘Cuba’ is a striking, colourful stem plant prized by aquascaping enthusiasts for its distinctive red, orange, and green foliage. Native to Cuba, this aquatic plant can grow both above and below the water surface. When grown emersed, it produces broader, oval-shaped green leaves, while its submerged growth features long, narrow leaves with attractive marbled red and orange patterns.

With its vibrant colours and fast growth, Ludwigia inclinata ‘Cuba’ is an excellent choice for adding contrast and visual interest to large planted aquariums. It is particularly suitable for the midground and background of nature-style aquascapes, where its colourful foliage can create a dramatic focal point.

Ludwigia inclinata’Cuba’ Growing Requirements

For healthy growth and intense coloration, Ludwigia inclinata’Cuba’ requires strong lighting, a consistent CO₂ supply, and balanced nutrients. Iron is particularly important for maintaining healthy foliage and supporting proper plant development. Insufficient iron may cause pale or whitish new growth and weaken the plant.

This species tends to grow diagonally rather than strictly vertically, and its rapid growth can quickly occupy a large area of the aquarium. It may be sensitive to trimming, so handle it carefully when pruning. Replanting healthy cuttings can help establish replacement plants and maintain the aquascape.

Under suitable aquarium conditions, Ludwigia inclinata ‘Cuba’ can become a spectacular feature plant, bringing vibrant colours and a distinctive appearance to larger planted tanks.
