Trident Fern (Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident’)

Trident Fern (Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident’) is a beautiful, easy-to-grow aquatic fern known for its narrow, distinctive leaves. Its attractive leaf shape makes it an excellent choice for creating natural-looking aquascapes in both small and large aquariums. Suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers, this hardy plant adds texture and greenery to planted tanks without requiring complicated care.

The name “Trident” refers to its characteristic three-pronged leaf shape, although individual leaves can vary from simple, narrow forms to more deeply divided shapes.

How to Plant

Trident Fern grows particularly well when attached to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium hardscape. It is ideal for creating natural-looking layouts and adding greenery to shaded areas of your aquarium.

If planting it near the substrate, avoid burying its horizontal rhizome, as this can cause the rhizome to rot. With suitable conditions, small plantlets may develop on mature leaves. These can be carefully removed and attached to new surfaces to propagate the plant.

Whether you are creating a beginner-friendly planted aquarium or a detailed aquascape, Trident Fern is a versatile aquatic plant that brings a distinctive appearance to your underwater landscape.
