Ceratopteris thalictroides, commonly known as Water Sprite, Indian Fern, Oriental Water Fern, or Water Hornfern, is a fast-growing and versatile freshwater aquarium plant. It is a popular choice for planted tanks because of its delicate, finely divided light-green leaves and rapid growth.

This aquatic fern naturally occurs throughout many tropical regions, particularly in shallow water, muddy areas, and rice paddies. It can grow both submersed underwater and emersed, making it a highly adaptable plant for freshwater aquariums.

Water Sprite can be grown either as a floating aquarium plant or planted directly into the aquarium substrate. Growth and Care

Older leaves can sometimes produce small plantlets between the leaf divisions. These plantlets can eventually develop into new plants. To encourage propagation, mature leaves with developing plantlets can be separated and allowed to float on the water surface until the young plants become established.

Ceratopteris thalictroides can also produce finely divided emersed leaves when grown in shallow water or on nutrient-rich wet substrates.
