Aponogeton crispus

Apongeton crispus is found in periodic ponds and swampy regions in Sri Lanka. Even though the wavy-edged Aponogeton grows in ponds only filled with water during the rainy season it doesn’t need a resting phase when kept in an aquarium. It is known to hybridise with other species of the genus. This very well-known aquarium plant is very widely spread in the hobby and in the trade.

Apongeton crispus is an easy plant and very suitable for beginning plantkeepers.
All it needs are sufficient light and a substrate rich in nutrients. It prefers slightly acidic water, however, it also grows when the pH is higher. It is an excellent plant for low-maintenance tanks without an additional CO2 fertilisation.

Yellowish and/or disintegrating leaves should be cut off at the base. The wavy-edged Aponogeton can be propagated by simply splitting the rhizome or by seeds.
Apongeton crispus is known to flower frequently even when kept in an aquarium.

Due to its size, Apongeton crispus is only suitable for large aquaria. Its leaves may grow to the top even in large and deep tanks and float, covering large parts of the surface. So please consider that this Aponogeton grows fast and large when you think about planting one in your aquarium.
Highly suitable for planting in the background, be it as solitary plant or in a group.
