Anubias Congensis – Easy-Care Aquarium Plant

Anubias Congensis is a beautiful and hardy aquatic plant that is an excellent choice for planted aquariums, aquascaping projects, and terrariums. Native to West Africa, this popular Anubias variety is known for its long, narrow, pointed green leaves, which create a distinctive appearance compared to the broader leaves of Anubias barteri and Anubias nana.

One of the main advantages of Anubias Congensis is its ability to adapt to a wide range of aquarium conditions. It is suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers looking for a low-maintenance aquarium plant. This versatile plant can grow both submerged in water and emersed in humid environments, making it suitable for aquariums, terrariums, and other aquatic plant setups.

Growing

For the best results, attach the rhizome of Anubias Congensis to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape materials. Avoid burying the rhizome in aquarium substrate, as this can lead to rotting. The plant grows well under low to medium lighting and benefits from regular aquatic plant fertilization. Although CO₂ injection is not essential, additional CO₂ can encourage healthier growth and more robust leaves.

Anubias Congensis is a slow-growing plant, so excessive lighting may encourage algae growth on its leaves. Maintaining suitable lighting and good aquarium water quality will help keep the plant looking healthy and attractive.

Propagation and Maintenance

Propagating Anubias Congensis is simple. Carefully divide the rhizome into sections, ensuring that each section has healthy roots and leaves, then attach the divisions to suitable surfaces. Its slow growth and minimal maintenance requirements make it an excellent choice for natural aquascapes, community aquariums, and planted tank layouts.
