Echinodorus ‘Red Chameleon’ – Red Aquarium Plant

Echinodorus ‘Red Chameleon’ is an attractive red aquarium plant and a beautiful choice for planted tanks. This cultivated variety is slightly smaller than Echinodorus ‘Green Chameleon’, reaching approximately 15–30 cm in height, making it suitable for adding a striking midground or background feature to many aquarium layouts.

The leaves of Echinodorus ‘Red Chameleon’ naturally develop reddish tones, even when the plant is grown emersed. However, its true beauty becomes more visible when grown underwater. With strong aquarium lighting, the plant can produce compact growth and develop intense, deep-red coloration on its newer central leaves.

For healthy and vigorous growth, Echinodorus ‘Red Chameleon’ benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate, regular liquid fertilization, and adequate CO₂ supplementation. Providing good lighting and sufficient nutrients can help enhance its characteristic red coloration and encourage attractive new growth.

This Echinodorus variety is an excellent choice for aquascapers looking to add red foliage and strong visual contrast to a planted aquarium. It can work particularly well as a focal plant in nature-style aquascapes and other freshwater planted tank designs.
