Bacopa myriophylloides
Bacopa myriophylloides is a delicate and unusual aquatic stem plant from Central Brazil, particularly associated with the wetland areas of the Pantanal. Unlike most Bacopa species commonly found in the aquarium hobby, it has a fine, needle-like leaf structure that gives it a similar appearance to Myriophyllum or fine-leaved Rotala species.
Its light green submerged stems are slender and fragile, with tiny leaves arranged in attractive whorls around the stem. This unique growth pattern makes Bacopa myriophylloides an excellent choice for planted aquariums and aquascapes, especially when planted as a group in the midground.
Growing Bacopa in an Aquarium
Bacopa myriophylloides is best suited to aquariums with strong lighting, good CO₂ injection, and a consistent supply of nutrients. Although it is relatively small, providing the right conditions will encourage healthier and more compact growth.
Soft, slightly acidic water is recommended. Because the stems and leaves are delicate, care should be taken when planting and handling this aquarium plant.
Aquascaping Uses
With its fine-textured foliage and light green colour, Bacopa myriophylloides can create a soft and natural appearance in planted tanks. Planting several stems together helps create a fuller group and makes its fine leaves more visually prominent.
It can also be an interesting choice for well-lit paludariums, where its emersed growth can produce attractive long-stalked flowers.
