Platinum Soil Powder – Premium Aquarium Soil for Aquatic Plants, Shrimp & Fish
Create a healthy and beautiful planted aquarium with Platinum Soil, a premium natural aquarium substrate specially designed for aquatic plants, shrimp, and freshwater fish. Made from 100% natural domestic black clay, Platinum Soil helps create a slightly acidic and soft-water environment that is well suited for planted aquariums and shrimp tanks.
Its natural water-conditioning properties can help reduce pH and KH, while its porous structure provides a suitable environment for beneficial bacteria. Platinum Soil also helps absorb impurities from the aquarium water, contributing to clearer and healthier water conditions.
Why Choose Platinum Soil?
Platinum Soil is an excellent choice for aquascapers who want to establish a healthy substrate while creating an attractive natural-looking aquarium.

- Supports Aquatic Plants: Provides a suitable substrate for healthy root development and plant growth.
- Ideal for Shrimp: Helps create soft, slightly acidic water conditions suitable for many freshwater shrimp, including bee shrimp.
- Helps Lower pH & KH: Naturally reduces pH and KH to support a weakly acidic, soft-water environment.
- Promotes Clear Water: Helps maintain clean and sparkling aquarium water for longer periods.
- Absorbs Phosphates: Helps absorb phosphates and pigments released by driftwood, which can contribute to unwanted algae and moss growth.
- Supports Beneficial Bacteria: Provides a suitable environment for beneficial microorganisms that help establish biological filtration.
- Improves Water Circulation: Its substrate structure can support better water movement through the bottom layer.
How to Use Platinum Soil
For the best results, follow these simple steps when setting up your aquarium:
- Do not wash the Platinum Soil before adding it to the aquarium.
- Spread the required amount evenly across the aquarium base.
- If you are creating an aquascape, you can make the substrate thicker toward the back to create depth and a more attractive layout.
- Slowly add water to the aquarium to prevent excessive disturbance of the soil.
- The water may become slightly cloudy immediately after filling the aquarium. This is normal.
- Turn on your aquarium filter and allow it to operate for approximately 1–2 hours to help clear the water.
- Any debris floating on the surface can be removed using an aquarium net or gentle aeration.
How Much Soil Do You Need?
The amount of aquarium soil required depends on your tank’s length, width, and desired substrate depth.
Calculation Formula
Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Soil Depth (cm) ÷ 1000 = Required Litres
Example
For a 90 cm × 60 cm aquarium with a substrate depth of 5 cm:
90 × 60 × 5 ÷ 1000 = 27 Litres
Therefore, approximately 27 litres of Platinum Soil would be required for a 90 × 60 cm aquarium with a 5 cm substrate layer.
For aquascaping, using a deeper substrate layer toward the rear of the aquarium can create a natural sense of depth and make the layout look more impressive.
