Pogostemon stellatus ‘Octopus’

Pogostemon stellatus ‘Octopus’ is an attractive aquatic stem plant known for its unique, flowing leaf shape and vibrant green appearance. Native to regions of Asia and Australia, this fast-growing plant can add movement, texture, and a natural look to planted aquariums. Its long, narrow leaves spread outward from the stems, resembling the tentacles of an octopus, making it an eye-catching choice for aquascaping.

This aquarium plant is ideal for creating a lush background in freshwater planted tanks. With its tall stems and distinctive foliage, Pogostemon stellatus ‘Octopus’ can help create depth and contrast in nature-style aquariums. Under suitable growing conditions, it can develop its full shape and impressive appearance.

Growing Requirements

Pogostemon stellatus ‘Octopus’ requires strong lighting and CO₂ supplementation to achieve healthy growth and maintain its attractive appearance. Regularly adding a suitable aquarium fertiliser is recommended to provide essential nutrients. A deficiency in micronutrients may cause the leaves to become pale, indicating that additional fertilisation may be needed.

Although this plant can be challenging to grow, maintaining stable water conditions, adequate nutrients, and sufficient lighting will help encourage healthy development. Plants grown emersed or in marsh-like conditions may initially appear compact, but they can develop longer stems and more characteristic foliage after adapting to a fully submerged aquarium.
