This plant, introduced as Rotala rotundifolia ‘H’ra’, belongs to the very variable species Rotala rotundifolia. It apparently was named after the hamlet H’Ra in Gia Lai province in the central highland of Vietnam. It is also sometimes called Rotala sp. “Gia Lai”, after the province.
This plant closely resembles Rotala rotundifolia “Colorata”, however, when cultivated under the same conditions, its submersed form is of a more orange colour and a bit narrower leaves, and a more overhanging or horizontal growth habit. The same growth habit can be observed in Rotala rotundifolia “Green”, which mainly differs from Rotala rotundifolia ‘H’ra’ by its exclusively light green colour.
